PRESS RELEASES- 2016

The Seventh Annual Pink Polo Season to Take Place on 4 November

1 November 2016, Abu Dhabi, UAE – The seventh annual Pink Polo match will take place on Friday, 4 November 2016, at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club as announced this morning in a press conference held at Jannah Burj Al Sarab. Launched in 2010 with an attendance of more than 5,000 spectators, a number that is grown exponentially year on year, the event is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club, as a way of raising breast cancer awareness in the UAE.

Polo enthusiasts from across the nation will attend the event at the UAE’s Royal Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club to witness the action in which Argentina will lock horns with UAE in a friendly competition.

The iconic breast cancer awareness drive has garnered a favourable response from the residents in UAE since its inception, due to its roster of fun activities and competitions prior to the match that promises entertainment for all age groups, such as pony and camel rides, a falconry show, photo sessions with polo players, camel polo, balloon release, a military skydive show, fashion show, tent pegging and more. Other attractions include hot air ballooning, face painting, henna, magic acts, balloon artists, doll house lounge, meet and greet photo wall, football tricks and tips coaching, live BBQ, live DJ, and much more.

Donations via the Tree of Hope will go to Pink Caravan, a committee that aims to raise funds to continue outreach programmes to the nation, support breast cancer awareness and reinforce their support systems.

In addition, ‘Best Dressed’ competitions, with prizes sponsored by official hotel partner Jannah Hotels & Resorts, will be held to encourage attendees – adults, children and even pets – to don their best pink outfits in support for the fight against breast cancer and also in support of those who won their battle with the illness.

The Pink Clinic, implemented by the Ahalia hospital and regarded as the nucleus of awareness dissemination at the event, will provide the chance for participants to meet with medical experts and breast cancer survivors, learn self-examination techniques and undergo free screenings at the mobile mammography unit.

This year’s event is presented by ADCB bringing again the Pink Garden, supported by Abu Dhabi Health Authority, and the governing partner Abu Dhabi Sports Council. The other sponsors include Beverly Hills Polo Club, the official sponsor of the second team; the official car Maserati presented by Premier Motors; home-grown hotel chain Jannah Hotels & Resorts as the official hotel sponsor, Ayaso boutique presenting the fashion show and a special Kimono presented for auction to raise funds for charity; Star Fm; Zahrt Al Khaleej; Ana Zahra; The Galleria Mall on Al Maryah Island; The Meat Co for the third year on a raw making special sweets and dishes for celebrating the Pink Polo and helping in raising funds for the charity event.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UAE and the second biggest killer of women in the country. If discovered and treated at an early stage, 98 per cent of sufferers stand a high chance of beating the illness. However only 30 per cent of breast cancer cases in the UAE are diagnosed early.
